The new IJF standards for judogis in 2023

Since January 1, 2022, the International Judo Federation has changed its standards concerning IJF approved judogis. We explain everything about the new IJF standards !

The new IJF standards for judogi in 2022

The IJF standards which have not changed for approved judogis:

  • The kimono sleeves should fit at the base of the wrist. There is a maximum tolerance of 1 cm.
  • The pants should not rise more than 5 cm above the malleolus.
  • The space between the fabric and the arm or leg should be between 10 and 15 cm.
  • Once fastened, the belt must not come undone by pushing on either end. These should be 20 to 30 cm from the node. And it must be worn above the hip bone.
  • In international competitions, fighters must wear white and blue judogi.

What changes with the new rules

The standards do not change much for the 2022/2024 Olympiad regarding judogis. However, some points, such as the length of the jacket, will change. We explain!

The distance between the points where the jacket passes through the waistband must be 25 cm. Previously, it was 20 cm.

The bottom of the jacket should coverthe buttocks by 5 to 10 cm. Under the old standard, the jacket had to cover only the buttocks.

Judogis are checked 2 days before and on the day of the competition. The inspection carried out 2 days before the competition allows judokas who do not meet the standards to find a judogi that complies with the standards and to be able to put on their number. their number on the new judogis.

What’s new for Fighting Films judogis – Superstar 750 (IFJ-approved)

To maintain its status as an IJF supplier, Figting Films has met the new standards. That’s why Fighting Films kimonos, like the Superstar 750, have been re-cut.

Fighting Films has increased the length:

  • skirt (H) by 5 cm ;
  • skirt length (L) by 5 cm ;
  • of the jacket (B) by 5 cm.
